Abstract
An expert system for automatic patient realignment in MRI is being developed. The approach relies on the isolation of several key anatomical features and consequently, has resulted in the development of novel feature extraction techniques. Rotational movement of a current set of slices with respect to a historical master set was computed and corrected. This was achieved by carrying out measurements on the isolated features from the two sets of scans and then performing the transformations. Resulting images based on off-line processing show an improvement in patient positioning compared to the realignment achieved by the radiographer
