Abstract :
Describes a programming language (called IAL, for Image Algebra Language) in which the IA notation is embedded. It has been designed with a transputer-based execution environment in mind. IAL is Pascal-based and provides special operators for all the IA operations, and control structures such as if . . . then, while . . . do. Special type mechanisms for declaring 2D images and templates are provided, and built-in routines for image input/output, etc. are also available. An initial configuration section is defined by the user to specify the size of the transputer network. Transputers are used to provide very high speed cost-effective performance. An outline is given of the IAL notation, providing details of how operations are expressed and how they can be composed to form a complete IAL program. Image input/output, some implementation factors and a complete example of an IAL program are discussed
