Abstract
The author describes the basic principles of FEA and place that method in its industrial context. He then describes his preconceived ideas as to how the parallel software should be structured, and what problems he found, and the structure which he eventually used. The new approach can be presented as a natural extension of traditional software design, and one of the nicer discoveries was that traditional proof techniques could be applied very effectively. The author is applying the computational kernel to the `parallelisation´ of some of the analysis packages relevant to the FEA marketplace
