Abstract :
The transient voltage distribution on the core wire and outer semiconductor layer of the XLPE cable winding which is under lightning surge is discussed. The transient voltage with certain amplitude on the outer semiconductor layer of the cable winding would be measured because of the special characteristics of the cable winding structure, which is very different with transient characteristics of the traditional transformer winding under invasion of lightning wave. The transient characteristic of the XLPE cable winding is analyzed by measuring transient voltage on the core wire and outer semiconducting layer, which can provide a basis for design and lightning protection technologies for the new type transformer.
