  • Abstract
    In video communication over lossy packet networks (e.g., the Internet), packet loss errors can severely damage the transmitted video. The damaged video can largely be repaired with spatial error concealment, where neighboring information was used to estimate missing information. They mask the effect of missing blocks by using the spatial orland temporal correlation to create image or video of subjectively acceptable quality. This paper proposes a novel modified error concealment method for sub-band coded I-frames using Daubechies wavelet transform. This method is applied on each erroneous frame to give the ability to conceal each sub-band separately. In this case, each sub-band can be reconstructed according to the desired quality without the need to conceal the whole image size. This leads to a significant compression process yielding to a remarkable reduction in processing time without a noticeable effect on the quality of the reconstructed video frame. Our experimental results demonstrate a significant improvement in the processing concealment time compared to the modified spatial algorithm in [1] for all types of errors, which can be categorized as isolated erroneous macro-blocks and successive erroneous macro-blocks.
