Abstract :
We theoretically and experimentally discussed a low cost system using an LD direct optical modulator that can re-transmit UHF band terrestrial digital TV signals (eight channels) sent via several hundred optical fiber networks. Optimum light modulation, required light input power at the photo detector, and influence of IM3 produced by the nonlinear optical effect of optical fibers are discussed. We verified that no major problems are found if the system is well designed.
