Abstract :
A method of calculating the steady state harmonic magnetic field distribution in an induction motor is established. The time harmonic components of the magnetic field duo to rotor slotting and discrete conductors are obtained in addition to the fundamental AC component. A single finite element mesh is constructed and the material properties associated with this mesh are allowed to vary with time to account for the rotation of the rotor. The effects of currents induced by rotor motion are accounted for by including an additional term in the electromagnetic field equations which are to be solved. This method is applied to an induction motor for which the harmonic components of the magnetic field are calculated
