Abstract :
Deals with the 3D computation of eddy currents induced in moving conductors surrounded by a magnetic field. This requires one to establish 3D formulations devoted to the computation of eddy currents in the moving regions, and then to find a numerical method which gets rid of the oscillation appearing when solving the convection-diffusion equation with a standard Galerkin discretization. The basic hypotheses concerning the range of devices modelled are the invariance of the geometry and the physical properties of the moving parts in the direction of the speed, and a static current is flowing through the field sources. In other words, the whole physical phenomena is time independent. The electromagnetic retarders fully satisfy these hypotheses and are used to validate the numerical methods proposed
