Abstract :
An improved finite-element technique has been presented, capable of solving waveguide problems with very coarse meshes. The new technique uses the magnetic field vector H, and improves the accuracy of the obtained solutions, by optimizing an exponential parameter instead of refining the finite-element mesh. The validity and efficiency of this technique has been shown in the analysis of hollow and dielectric-loaded metallic waveguides, where the number of mesh-unknowns is reduced by 50-70%. Also, the computing time is reduced to roughly one-tenth of that required for the conventional H-field formulation
