Abstract
Examples are given illustrating how variational techniques may be applied to the problem of calculating the RCS of distorted (and therefore realistic) composite scatterers and of resonant-sized objects. The computing power required to predict the RCS using these variational techniques is often less than that required using more conventional techniques, especially when the RCS distribution over a small angular range is required. There is no increase in computing power required for the treatment of distorted rather than ideal scattering objects
