Abstract
Considers the effect of the mobile radio propagation environment on the distance structure of a block coded modulation scheme and discusses the implications on bit error rate performance. It is assumed that ideal equalisation is implemented, so that the combination of equaliser and decoder forms a maximum likelihood decoder for the code as transformed by the channel. Simulation results are presented showing how the distance structure changes in different channels
