Abstract :
A method of delivering cordless access is described, in which a radio distribution point (DP) is fed by an analogue optical link. Using sub-carrier multiplexing the radio path between the handset and the cordless fixed part is extended over single-mode optical fibre, in a system known as `fibre-radio´. The call processing and other functions such as frequency conversion may therefore be located at a local exchange, minimising the size, power consumption and complexity of the DP. The author discusses the critical design parameters for such a system and reports practical demonstrations of single- and four-channel systems employing CT2 technology
