Abstract :
This paper discusses the performance of the forward and reverse control channels of the IS-95 CDMA standard, known as the paging and access channels, respectively. Modeling and simulation work was conducted to quantify the performance of these channels in terms of traffic handling capacity, average message delays, blocking levels, etc. The results shown are based on a specific system call model, and serve as illustrative guidelines for the proper engineering of these control channels, which have a major impact on the overall performance of cellular networks
