Abstract
It has been shown that to accurately assess the implications of the group delay ripple (GDR) of a dispersion compensating fiber Bragg grating on system performance it is necessary to consider the chirp of the modulated optical signal. The variation in the receiver sensitivity for the five modulators considered in this paper is less significant for a peak-to-peak GDR less than 10 ps, although currently this is difficult to achieve in practice
