Abstract
Frequency-selective fading caused by multipath time dispersion degrades the performance of digital communication systems by causing intersymbol interference, resulting in an irreducible BER, and imposing an upper limit on the data symbol rate. The authors present the results of a software investigation of the performance of a GSM-based system, over a mobile radio channel, which has been modelled by two paths with different amplitudes and excess delays. Additional insight into the error mechanism is also presented
