  • Abstract
MES lies between ERP (enterprise resource planning) and PCS (process control systems) and acts like a bridge in enterprise integrated automation. According to the characteristics of process industry, the function blocks of MES are categorized and their basic functions are defined. A distributed process industry MES architecture based on MAS and OPC technology is put forward. The coordination of objects in MES is analyzed through a case. The MES framework in this article possesses high levels of flexibility and extensibility and lays a good foundation for MES to play important roles in enterprise integrated automation
