Abstract
This paper proposes a new type of wireless services over IP networks (WoIP), which enable voice communication sessions among mobile terminals with different types of air-interfaces. A SIP (session initiation protocol) server administrates the sessions, and realizes a call between WLAN (wireless LAN) and PHS (personal handy-phone system) terminals via IP network. Their service areas are experimentally evaluated in not only propagation loss but also MOS (mean opinion score) of voice quality. The results show that PHS has the wider area than WLAN, and an effect of service area extension for WLAN system using LCX (leaky CoaXial cable) is experimentally investigated.
