Abstract
Database synchronisation is a vital aspect of any database system, be it commercial or military. It is especially important in military C 3I systems where critical decisions may be taken as a result of database information. Database synchronisation means that the data viewed by one user must be the same as that viewed by another user at a different physical location or node. This meas that the database system must maintain not only local integrity but also global consistency across all nodes. This is a complex task given the communications problems specific to military C3I systems. Database synchronisation in military C3I systems is a critical issue that is not fully addressed by the commercial database products currently available. With few exceptions, military customers need bespoke database software that can be specifically tailored to their precise requirements
