Abstract
This paper presents a workstation-based, integrated software engineering environment for control-oriented telecommunication software. Emphasis is placed on the semantic aspects of integration and the subject is considered from a user requirements perspective. It is shown how highly effective integration can be achieved with little modification to existing tools using ARCADE, a set of integration facilities at the presentation and process level. An important characteristic of the environment is the separation between integration facilities and the object management system. The approach is shown to be complementary to one based on a message communication facility
