Integrated manufacturing systems design

Customer demands for greater product sophistication and variation is requiring manufacturing systems to be more flexible. Rapid changes in technology, which now use more sophisticated computer based hardware and software, are demanding new levels of competence from systems designers. This paper looks at two areas where systems designers need support. The first area concerns the organization of the project team. The second is in the area of tools and methodologies to help in the design and planning of the projects
