Abstract :
There is a commercial and economic need for an internationally accepted standard of communication between manufacturing devices. The advent of MMS Manufacturing Message Specification, adopted for use in MAP, has gone a long way to satisfying this need. Now factory floor devices can communicate with the high degree of complexity needed for control and interaction. The Welding Institute has had two years of experience using MMS with MAP, having adapted machine controllers to the standard. The project has shown that MMS can perform all that is required in the integration of the manufacturing environment
