Abstract
Presents details of work carried out in the initial feasibility study phase of the DTI and industry funded DEFACTO (Development of a Flexible Assembly Consultancy Tool) project. The results of the feasibility study are being taken forward to the collaborative EUREKA FAMOS project aimed ultimately at the commercial exploitation of a computer-based FA consultancy tool, together with an associated methodology, capable of assisting its users in identifying, evaluating and prioritising flexible assembly (FA) opportunities. The feasibility study assessed the practicality of developing such a tool to support the process of FA consultancy and to automate certain FA consultancy tasks
