Abstract :
We have demonstrated experimentally the phenomenon of evanescent-field coupling between two parallel long period fibre gratings (LPFGs). Significant light energy can be tapped from a single-mode fiber using this coupling mechanism. It could form the basis of various kinds of wavelength-dependent devices, such as add/drop multiplexers and couplers. Tunability could be achieved conveniently by control of the coupling efficiency through varying the grating separation band offset
