Abstract
A pyramidal video compression technique has been developed with a VLSI implementation in mind. This technique is computationally simple and makes use of the multi-resolution properties of pyramids that allows a moving image to be degraded `gracefully´ if a bandwidth limit is exceeded. An ASIC implementation is under investigation which would reduce the whole codec to a single chip plus standard memory
