Abstract :
A static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) control is presented to enhance the damping of the power system. The aim of this paper is dynamic modeling and analysis of STATCOM for a single-machine infinite-bus (SMIB) power system. Also the applicability of PID type control in dynamic performance enhancement with eigenvalue analysis is studied and shown to be feasible. The model is then used to investigate the damping improvement of a SMIB and the results obtained are systematically described.
