Abstract :
One of the challenges in real time modeling of electrical machines is obtaining the electrical parameters of the machine, especially with non-standard geometries as is the case at this level of developments in permanent magnet DC linear motors (PMDCLMs). In this paper, finite element analysis method is used to evaluate the inductances of the machine as a function of mover, in this case permanent magnet, position. These inductances are then tabulated and directly used in the simulation of the motor on a real time digital simulator. The developed model has the advantage of allowing dynamic characteristics of the machine, with available switching converter models, to be evaluated before its construction
