Abstract
The user must select the appropriate machine for his requirements and then decide whether improvements in efficiency can be justified in terms of cost effectiveness. Incurring possible additional costs by ensuring an off-loaded start may allow the motor manufacturer to offer a more efficient machine. A complete analysis of the system as a whole including other operating costs is advisable before considering the benefits of improved motor efficiency in isolation. An ability to calculate all losses including stray with improved accuracy is essential to the motor manufacturer if he wants to offer the most suitable machine for the application
