Abstract
Requirements for efficient coverage of geographical areas on earth from a satellite frequently call for antennas which radiate beams of elliptical cross-section. Although in principle a wide range of antenna solutions may be considered, the additional demands placed upon the polarization purity of the radiated beams by many frequency re-use communication systems severely restrict the choice of antennas which can be employed for such applications.
