Abstract :
An algorithm for the calculation of power system frequency from digital samples of voltage or current is described. The algorithm filters the input signal and produces two orthogonal components which are then combined to evaluate the frequency. The algorithm compensates for changes in the magnitude of the measured signal. Results are presented showing the algorithm´s accuracy under sinusoidal input conditions and the effect of noise and changes in frequency and amplitude on the input signal
