Abstract
The authors describe the advanced energy management system (EMS) presently being implemented for the State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV) by Siemens. This is the first system ordered based on a distributed system of servers and full-graphic workstations running under the UNIX operating system. The authors explain the system´s architecture and redundancy concept. The structure of the software system is also described together with details of the distribution of the database and the application functions. Finally, the advantages of this innovative approach are highlighted
