Abstract :
This work studies the performance of N-orthogonal pulse position modulated (PPM) signals for ultra wideband (UWB) communications over both additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and multipath channels. We use a pulse position optimization that reduces the detection error probability by exploiting the negative values in the pulse correlation function. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the advantages of N-orthogonal over orthogonal signals.
