Abstract :
A very sophisticated and yet user-friendly computer program has been developed for the performance assessment of lightning shielding systems (PALSS). The author describes the use of this program PALSS and demonstrates its usefulness. Examples of analysis and design on some typical structures are given. In particular, it is now noted that with taller structures, an aerial roof conductor system alone is insufficient and lightning strokes which terminate on the sides of these structures can be expected. This analysis package and method used is superior to any of the methods suggested in the present lightning protection codes
