Abstract
A double layer frequency selective surface (FSS) is proposed as a means to enhance the bandwidth of a Fabry-Perot resonator antenna. The surface is used as the cavity partially reflecting wall (PRW). The resonator is fed by a patch placed inside the cavity at the proximity of its perfect wall. The antenna bandwidth is significantly improved by virtue of employing the double layer array. A ray theory model is used to describe the resonant cavity modes and predict the cavity behavior in presence of its new PRW. Results of an antenna application at 12 GHz are shown.
