Abstract :
Angular plane-wave spectrum representation of the scattered field from a dual surface phase conjugating tuneable FSS excited by a uniform current dipole along with the integral equation approach has for the first time been applied to the study of negative refraction focussing properties. It has been shown that the characteristic focal width is about wavelength in the longitudinal direction and about half wavelength in the transversal direction. PCFSS phase and/or amplitude control by tuneable lumped element loading is shown to be feasible and to have little degrading influence on the quality of the resulting dipole image formed. These results indicate the possibility of such an arrangement as a practical means for constructing an ultra thin lens suitable for point source or short source imaging, or for a novel antenna lensing system where amplitude, and or phase encoded signals are required.
