Abstract :
A novel media access protocol AC/ID (access control with interference detection) is introduced which combines TDMA (time division multiple access) reservation and carrier sensing. The collision detection behavior of the protocol is evaluated analytically, and the protocol performance is compared with that of other protocols by simulation. It is shown that this protocol is able to adapt to microwave propagation behavior and is well suited for decentralized mobile radio networks. The protocol uses reduced transmission periods to check reserved slots against interfering signals of other stations. Simulations have shown that using carrier sensing instead of ALOHA techniques improves protocol performance. The protocol is shown to be especially useful for time-constrained applications with high redundancy
