Abstract :
The author presents the results of comparisons between the following UHF TV high-power amplification devices: solid state from Philips, Thompson and Motorola; tetrode from Thompson; Klystrode from Varian; IOT from EEV; MSDC from Varian; ESC from EEV; and PDC from Philips. They are compared in terms of operating costs, annual replacement costs, capital costs, relative maintenance costs, operational complexity and performance. Their performance includes, differential phase, differential gain, out-of-band products, in-band intermodulation and system efficiency. The comparisons were made in the power level range of 1 to 140 kW;
