Abstract :
The author shows how computers support the innovative development process in a modern tube design. Out of the design and construction phase some examples are given, dealing with cooling problems, pressure distribution and beam calculations. In this context the special properties and technical data of the air cooling will be highlighted. The potential, but also the risk of installing air cooling at higher power level will be discussed
