  • Abstract
This paper is concerned with the problem of breakdown of certainty equivalence in nonlinear H control. Breakdown can occur in two ways: (i) the maximum of the function pt(z)+V(x) fails to exists, or (ii) the argmax is not unique. Here, pt is the information state or cost to come at time t, and V is the state feedback value function. If the closed-loop system under certainty equivalence control starts off with (i) and (ii) satisfied, it can happen that (i) or (ii) fails at some later time. This paper presents conditions involving the initial information state p0 which prevents (i) from failing
