An equalizer for D2MAC/packet receivers

At the end of 1988, France Telecom decided to set up a television broadcasting service via cable networks. Philips has developed a consumer receiver for France Telecom, i.e. Visiopass which uses the D2MAC/packet and Eurocrypt standards. The equalizer, presented was developed in this context. The main problems linked to the transmission and reception of a D2MAC/packet television signal are discussed. The authors describe the Visiopass receiver and deal with the characteristics of the equalization circuit. Finally, they describe the main results showing the improvement provided by the equalizer implemented in a prototype receiver
