Abstract :
Distributed applications in a federated distributed database system (FDDBS) are considered, and an architecture model for an open FDDBS is outlined. Global transactions and serializability requirements are discussed. A decentralized global transaction management method that allows an integrated use of two different transaction models in a single environment is presented. DBPL-Net, a prototype FDDBS system, is described. It allows distributed applications written in the Databases Programming Language, DBPL, and is supported by both types of distributed transactions to be executed
