Abstract :
The author draws attention to challenges confronting the domestic TV receiver designer in an age of new terrestrial PAL signals on established or hitherto unused channels, and digital (orthogonal FDM) transmission of totally unrelated format, as well as the European Community EMC Directive. An opinion is expressed in favour of either another signal-processing `set-top box´, or a modular receiver with features selected by the viewer at the point of sale
