Abstract
The application of the intermediate value theorem and the bisection method to this problem is an important improvement in the collimation process particularly for large antennas. Previously used methods checked each possible phase shifter offset, resulting in a large number of commands sent and data read. The result of this study was a 90% reduction in the time required to collimate an array. The prior method used by RAS halted collimation when ?1 approached 0.1 dB, as the collimation process was too inefficient to wait for the optimum result. The speed improvements of this method allow greater accuracy in the collimation process, and therefore allow more gain realization.
