Abstract :
The role of information technology in providing firms with a competitive advantage is discussed. It is shown that rather than use technology defensively to keep pace with changes introduced by competitors or to maintain an incremental advantage at an ever-increasing cost, a corporation can secure a more lasting advantage by using technology to transform itself inwardly, freeing resources for deployment to where the customers perceive value for them
