Coherent RF modulation of an optical carrier for application to phased array antennas

A technique for coherent RF modulation of an optical carrier is presented. The approach described has potential application as an electronically controllable fiber-optic delay line for frequency independent phased array antennas. The construction and operation of the electro-opticul device are discussed, and experimental data demonstrating modulation and detection of the optically introduced RF phase shift are presented.
