Abstract
A mega-ampere generator for plasma implosion experiments (MAGPIE) is being constructed at Imperial College, London. The MAGPIE generator design consists of four separate Marx banks, each connected to a coaxial, water filled, transmission line and a switch. Each Marx bank consists of 24100 kV, 0.7 μF capacitors arranged in a bipolar charging configuration, giving an output of 2.4 MV with a stored energy of 86 kJ. The generator is specifically designed to enable radiative collapse experiments to be carried out in a hydrogen fibre dense 2-pinch
