Abstract
As mobile terminals become more common in society, the expectations placed on them are becoming more demanding. All of the standard applications of a desktop computer and also on-line applications such as Internet access are now available to the mobile worker. The migration of applications such as video conferencing and interactive multimedia services from fixed network (such as ISDN and General Switched Telephone Network, GSTN) working to mobile network (such as GSM and DECT) working is an important next step. This paper looks at some of the problems unique to mobile channels and describes studies of the effectiveness of the GSTN multimedia conferencing standard H.324 running over a single GSM channel
