  • Abstract
    The paper describes two expert systems for fault diagnosis on electricity distribution networks, the High Voltage Expert System (HVES) and the Low Voltage Expert System (LVES). The aim of each is to determine the location of faulted equipment in the network using available information. The HVES (based on an earlier program called FAUST-Fault Analysis Using Simulation and Testing and the LVES will both be agents within a distributed control room application called CIDIM, a demonstrator application for the Esprit project Archon (Esprit project 2256-architecture for cooperative heterogeneous on-line systems). The reason for having two different systems is because of the different information which is available at high and low voltages. The two systems are described and some of the major differences between them are highlighted. A short discussion then follows on using these systems in the real world. This includes a short description of the roles of the system within Archon
