Abstract
In this article the generation of the second-order cumulative waves (denoted by SOCWs) accompanying nonlinear SH mode in a solid plate has been studied. Generally, the amplitude of the driven second harmonic arising from the nonlinear self-interaction of shear wave is independent of propagation distance. However, for SH mode consisting of two shear waves, the cross interaction between two shear waves may cause the SOCW generation once some conditions are satisfied. With appropriate boundary and initial conditions of excitation, the process of the SOCW generation is clearly shown, and the SOCW analytical expressions are determined. In the present analysis, the SOCWs accompanying nonlinear SH mode are of substantial significance due to their obvious effect
