Abstract :
Describes a new multicomputer architecture called COBRA together with an enabling implementation technology uniquely suited to it, both of which are under development as part of a collaborative project between Glasgow University and Motorola Ltd. A COBRA system is an n-cube with a crossbar connection in each k-processor cluster. This crossbar has a 1 to k-1 broadcast capability. The crossbar is distributed across the nodes of a cluster as follows: every node possesses a uniquely owned unidirectional bus-like output link which connects it to every other element in the cluster
