Abstract :
Bringing together different media such as motion video, sound, animations, still images and text all on the personal computer makes multimedia the technology of the future and a technology which will eventually become mainstream desktop computing. The author discusses latest challenge in multimedia of how to reduce the vast amounts of data and processing that are required to integrate video into a PC. New compression technology reduces the amount of data required to integrate video and audio, and therefore enables sequences to be permanently stored on a hard disk or other storage device, or sent down telecommunication lines
